In case you have been under a rock this week, Randy Moss was traded from the New England Patriots to the Minnesota Vikings. Moss was a vital part of the Patriots offense averaging over 15 touchdowns a season. But the Patriots may miss the way he opened up the field even more then his touchdowns.
One cup of Wes Welker + A sprinkle of Randy Moss and presto : Fantasy Nuclear Bomb
Since the 2007-2008 season when Moss arrived in New England nobody has benefited more then Wes Welker. Arriving the same year, Welker has become a fantasy juggernaut playing WR #2 in New England. In his worst season he accumulated 111 receptions for 1,165 yards and 18 touchdowns. In the 47 games before Welker became the “Robin” to Moss’s “Batman” he totaled 96 catches for 1,121 yards and only 1 touchdown (this is over a 4 year span). His resurgence has been nothing short of amazing.
One cup of Percy Harvin + A sprinkle of Randy Moss and…
Last year Percy Harvin had a nice rookie season. At the end of the year he had 60 receptions, 790 yards and 6 touchdowns. Now that Randy Moss is back in town could Percy see the same type of fantasy explosion? Its definitely possible, but there are a lot of other factors.
Minnesota has one the best running backs in the league. Adrian Peterson is the type of back that can take a game over. If Peterson is getting 20-30 touches on the ground, then that’s less touches for Percy Harvin. Add to that the fact the Vikings are stacked on offense. Peterson, Shiancoe, Moss and Sidney Rice will be back soon. There is only one football and thats a lot of hands that want the football.
But, Wait a Second
Lets not forget that the Patriots spread the ball around quite a bit and were still able to get the ball to Moss and Welker a lot. New England always get pegged as a passing team, but they actually had more rushing yards then the Vikings last year and have more rushing yards so far this year. So maybe Percy Harvin can become the second coming of Wes Welker. Only time will tell.
